One of these days I'll really have to get around to putting 7 on it.Īlso, a good friend showed me this little trick, which should be great for all us poor college students trying to get the most out of our non-workstation graphics cards:įrom what I hear it works on most 5000-8000 series Nvidia GeForce graphics cards. But then again, XP-64 was sort of a bastard child to begin with. It has also gotten a lot buggier, and is a huge pain to work with right now. Pretty much as long as I've had it on there I've gotten the habit of always opening Solidworks 3 times, as you have a pretty reliable 1/3 chance of it making it all the way open (and with a quad core it really doesn't take any more time).

My XP 64 bit machine at home, however, is a different story. Since then I've also put it on my new laptop running 64 bit 7 Home Edition (not supposed to work, I know ), but it has performed absolutely flawless. The second one is running just as solid as any XP 32 bit machine.
#SOLIDWORKS 2010 STUDENT EDITION UPDATE#
One more update on Win7 and 64 bit compatibility: We now have 2 of our computers running 64 7 pro the one I mentioned earlier appears to have become less buggy, I'm guessing through Windows updates. We've always sort of made it a habit to get the order in a couple weeks before classes start every year, not sure exactly when the new version is released but we mostly just try to keep our stuff on schedule with the rest of the university computers (which generally get the new version installed some time over the summer). Choose the Compatibility Tab and select “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” Windows Vista or XP Right mouse click on the SLDWORKS.exe file in the installation folderĢ. After a bit of digging I found some useful info on the .uk website.ġ. into a STEP file (stp) where the machine shop can upload to their mastercam. Thanks for the replies. In the solidworks student version you can change the sldprt. The student edition tries to import but just gives errors. We’re waiting to here back tomorrow if our machine shop, Hartwick Machining which is a LIFE SAVER for our team in North Texas :] :] :] :] :] to see if the part will work on mastercam. We also do not own mastercam, and can’t make our parts that easily and quickly since the machine shop uses their mastercam versions and the parts are rather complicated. It only allows for 25 saves so use them wisely!

step files (which is what mastercam works best with). Even professional can’t have the files transfer. The student edition doesn’t allow exporting to anything other than another student version.
